The English concertina layout is not subject to the vagaries that are evident with the other systems, but even so, there are variations. The bartone, bass and piccolo English concertinas have the same layout as the standard treble instrument, but play in different octaves. There are also 56 button versions of the standard layout that extend the range either up or down, and tenor-trebles that cross the treble and baritone ranges. However in all cases the basic pattern of notes is followed
