Concertina Reed Pan

This shows the reed pan for a modern Wheatstone 40-key anglo with steel reeds. The reed pan can be removed from the end of the concertina by hooking a finger through the hole in the middle and pulling gently. The appearance of the reed pan viewed from the other side is more-or-less identical, as each reed is intended to play in one direction (push or pull) only. Next to each reed can be seen the leather valve which controls the flow of air to the companion reed located on the other side of the pan. The reed carriers or shoes are brass, contrasting with the steel colour of the reeds.
